Groundworker - A Wellington that's Strong but Lightweight

featured image

V2110 Groundworker is a truly unique safety wellington. It’s tough, comfortable and flexible, but it’s also extremely lightweight compared to other wellingtons on the market while remaining in the same price range.

HOW HAVE WE MADE IT LIGHTWEIGHT?

  • Groundworker's PU upper is lighter than standard rubber wellingtons
  • Groundworker’s tear-resistant Neoprene leg material is significantly lighter than rubber
  • Groundworker’s composite midsole provides an additional weight save

WHY HAVE WE MADE IT LIGHTWEIGHT?

A big problem people working in industries like construction and utilities face is that wellingtons are by nature, heavy. There’s a lot of material in a wellie after all, and when you throw in a toe cap and midsole which are very often steel, it’s a recipe for hefty boots and tired feet.

Groundworker’s lightweight PU and Neoprene construction eliminates heavy feet and foot fatigue, elevating comfort to the maximum and leaving the wearer to focus on the job in hand.

PUNCHING ABOVE ITS WEIGHT - THE LIGHTEST BOOT IN ITS CLASS

V12 Groundworker market research

The diagram above shows just how much lighter V12’s Groundworker is compared to other safety wellingtons on the market. Weighing in at just 1,100 grams per boot, walking in V2110 Groundworker for 10,000 steps means that the wearer will have carried around one less hippo compared to a standard safety wellington. Put another way, over 10,000 steps, Groundworker is 3 tonnes lighter than its competitors.

According to health information provider Healthline, the average tradesperson walks nearly 12,000 steps per day, while the average farmer walks over 14,000 steps daily. With these kinds of numbers, it’s easy to see the massive benefit Groundworker's lightweight construction offers.

But lightweight is only one of the benefits of the Groundworker - want to find out more about its safety spec including tear-resistant upper, ankle protection and a thermal insulating lining? Watch below:

WHAT OTHER PROBlemS DOES GROUNDWORKER MINIMISE?

LACK OF COMFORT

Most wellies are made of solid rubber, so offer little in the way of underfoot cushioning or shock absorbance. Groundworker comes with full-length removable comfort insoles, so underfoot cushioning is built-in.

CRACKING

Cracking, particularly on the flex point of the boot is a common problem for wellington wearers, because when this occurs, it effectively spells the end of the boot’s life. When exposed to changes in temperature and other contaminants, cracking is a common issue with rubber, but Groundworker’s PU construction is much more durable and reliable.

DELAMINATION

Delamination is when the sole attachment comes away from the upper, and as well as being a trip hazard, this kind of damage also ends the boot’s life. This again is a common occurrence with many all-rubber safety boots on the market, and one that Groundworker’s PU material significantly reduces.

AND THERE’S MORE...

As well as its lightweight properties, Groundworker is packed with safety innovation, making it a true industry-leader.

  • Waterproof with temperature regulating lining offers dry feet and superb breathability in warm conditions
  • Anti-penetration midsole offers underfoot protection and enhanced flexibility
  • The outsole is temperature-resistant down to - 40°, providing outstanding thermal insulation

  • Ankle impact protection to safeguard the upper foot

LIGHT ON PRICE AS WELL AS WEIGHT

As well as being lighter than other safety wellingtons on the market, Groundworker carries a significantly lower price tag. Largely, this is because rubber is a more expensive material than PU, and furthermore, the process of vulcanising a rubber boot is very labour intensive compared to the relatively straightforward process of injected PU.

So this means that it's typically less expensive to produce: the chief reason that Groundworker is far less expensive - and far greater value - than many of its competitors.
