Britain's Feet Are Getting Bigger

The College of Podiatry recently published a report confirming what many of us at V12 have suspected for years – namely, our feet are getting bigger.

The report highlighted that in just forty years, the nation’s feet have increased on average by two shoes sizes. Once a size 14 shoe branded a man a giant - now boots in sizes 12,13 and 14 are common place.

As for the reasons behind the growth, firstly, our bodies are getting bigger. With extra weight to carry, our feet are growing and spreading, and furthermore, better nutrition is a key factor; a richer diet increases overall height development and brings on earlier growth spurts.

EASE, DON'T SQUEEZE

There is a downside however. Many people try to squeeze into shoes and boots that are too small for them. Driven by availability, larger footwear is often in short supply. The consequences can include foot pain, bunions, foot deformities and joint misalignment.

Driven by our mission to ensure comfort as well as safety for our wearers, we’ve long recognised the need to produce our boots in as wide a variety of size options as possible. That’s why many of our boots come in large and extra large sizes.
