Size  

Do I need the same size overshoe as my shoe size?  

This depends on the type of safety boot you're wearing. MukGuard has been developed for V12 boots, so if you’re in our footwear, you should have a fairly smooth ride. However, if you’re wearing a different brand of safety boot, particularly if it has features such as a durable scuff cap or a reinforced metatarsal guard, your boot might end up being a lot bigger than a conventional size 8. MukGuard overshoes come in dual sizing, so we recommend that if you wear a chunky boot with a scuff cap or broad features like a welted sole, going up a size is the right move.  

Now, if you’re a size 7, opting for size 7-8 overshoes will give you the extra room you might need. But, if you’re a size 12, opting for an 11-12 overshoe might not leave you with enough slack, so in this instance, we’d advise aiming higher with a size 13-14.  

So, a quick re-cap: 

• If you're wearing a wide or chunky boot, go up a size
• If your shoe size matches the highest number of the overshoe dual sizing, go up a size
• If you're wearing a V12 boot or your shoe size is at the low end of the dual sizing, stay with that size

Should my overshoes be tight or loose?  

Tight. A lot of wearers get put off by tight overshoes and worry that they haven’t been able to pull them on easily. While putting on a boot cover shouldn’t feel like you’re grappling with a wild bear, they should have a snug fit. MukGuard overshoes are supposed to be tight against your footwear, because if they’re loose or slack, not only could they end up slipping off, they could become snagged on something and cause a nasty accident. So don’t be another slip, trip and fall statistic – ensure you have a tight fit.   

Application  

Is there a particular technique to putting an overshoe over a safety boot?  

Yes.

It’s common for people to purchase overshoes for their outdoor work boots and think they’re too small when in fact, they just haven’t put them on in the right way. Following the recommendations below will help you get it right quickly.   

• Take the MukGuard overshoe and turn the heel inside out. This way, you can see more clearly how much material you have left to cover the shoe, and it will also enhance your grip when pulling it over the heal.    
• Really push your toe cap down into the tip of the overshoe. Don’t simply place it over the toe, because you’ll limit the material you need for the pull loop to go over the back of your boot.  
• After your toe is in, take the sides of the MukGuard and tug them upward, again to leave enough material for a snug fit over your heel. MukGuard is made from multi-directional neoprene, so you can trust in the technology that gives you both elasticity and resilience. 
• Finally, put your fingers through the pull loop and stretch it up over the heel of your boot.

How long should it take to put on my overshoe?   

It might initially feel like a bit of a headache trying to get your boot into a snuggly fitting overshoe, particularly when the clock’s ticking and you’ve got work to do, but it is worth it! If you take your time and get your technique right, it’ll take less than 30 seconds. Remember: slow and steady wins the race...   

Should I put on my MukGuard overshoe when I’m wearing my safety boots?  

Yes. Always put MukGuard on when you’re wearing the boot. When people try putting their shoe covers over their footwear when holding the boot or putting their hand inside, it means they won’t be able to push the toe cap in as meaningfully to allow them to pull the whole cover on. (This technique has also resulted in several boots with half attached shoe covers flying across various gardens and hallways. Be warned!)  

Should I be sitting or standing when I put MukGuard on?  

If possible, sit and cross one leg over the opposite knee when putting on your MukGuard. Standing and bending down isn't great for your stability or back, and while we know there isn't always a convenient bench in front of people’s houses, if you can find a place to sit, use it!
